Digital Light Fastness Tester

A digital light fastness tester evaluates the colorfastness of textiles and other materials against sunlight exposure. Its specifications include a controlled test chamber with a 500W Mercury Blended Tungsten Lamp (MBTL) as the light source, which simulates daylight conditions. The temperature within the chamber is typically maintained via a water circulation system, often held at ambient to 50C. Humidity is controlled at 50“60% RH using cylindrical cells. The tester features a digital, pre-set timer with a buzzer, allowing for precise control of test duration. Specimen holders, often made of stainless steel, expose samples to the light source, with a moving drum ensuring uniform exposure. The equipment often includes a voltage stabilizer, water tank, and pump, and conforms to international standards such as BS 1006 and IS 2454.

There are three primary methods for measuring twist, which correspond to the design and operation of different types of twist testers: Direct counting method: Best for plied and cabled yarns. Untwist-retwist method: Ideal for single yarns. Direct untwisting method: Suitable for strands. Types and features Yarn twist testers are available in manual, semi-automatic, and automatic variants. Manual yarn twist testers Best for: Educational settings or labs with low testing volume. Operation: The operator manually rotates a clamp to untwist the yarn. The number of revolutions is recorded on a mechanical or digital counter. Specifications: Test length: Typically a fixed length, such as 250 mm. Counter: Five-digit mechanical or digital counter. Tension: Adjustable with dead weights. Key features: Includes a magnifying glass and a viewing plate for visual confirmation of the endpoint.
