Direct counting method: The simplest method, it directly counts the number of revolutions needed to completely remove the twist from a known length of yarn. It is most suitable for plied or cabled yarns.
Untwist-retwist method: This is the most common method for single yarns. The tester first untwists the yarn, allowing it to extend, and then re-twists it in the opposite direction until it returns to its original length. The total number of revolutions is then divided by two to find the twist.
Twist contraction method: This method is based on the principle that a yarn contracts in length when twist is inserted and elongates when twist is removed.
